We have coffee together every morning. As our brains and creativity wake up over those cups of black water, we have some pretty interesting conversations.
Today, the conversation turned to the ethical use of leather in our products. Jenny, being the sensitive pixie-hearted girl she is, brought up how she has difficulty sometimes using leather as an artistic medium, knowing it comes from animals.
Polk, who's probably been a leather worker in 15 lifetimes, sat back and said:
"The thing with you and me, when we sit down with a piece of leather, we listen to that piece of leather and we honor it's voice and take it where it wants to go. A machine can't hear that voice."
Although we do not get the exchange of actually killing the animals for food and using every piece of them in order to honor the animals lives, we do what we can to honor those creatures who have been part of our circle of life. In some small way that makes Jenny feel better.
